Sangstream has a membership of roughly 60. It is a community choir and there are no auditions to join. You don’t need to be able to read music to sing with us and although we usually have sheet music available, we try to learn our songs by ear. The harmonies are generally added after we’ve learned the melody. All choir members have access to files containing the song words and audio recordings of the parts. Members can choose which section of the choir they wish to join for any song.
We have at least 30 rehearsals a year and usually have 2 formal concerts, plus some more informal community performances. In addition, our smaller ensemble, 'Wee Sangstream', performs several times a year in venues such as care homes or day centres. We can also be found in the Canon's Gait once a month for some social singing.
Members currently pay £15 per month (£8 concession) by Standing Order over the whole year. The choir rehearses in a High School in the Meadows area of Edinburgh.
