Sangstream - background
The group was founded in 1997 as an offshoot of the Scots
Music Group. It became independent in 1999, but remains affiliated to the Scots Music Group.
Sangstream is loosely run by an elected committee.
Over the years, we've been fortunate to have very talented tutors working with us as Musical Directors.
Christine Kydd led the group from the beginning until summer 2000.
From then until summer 2003, Jenny Clark was in charge. Over our summer sessions we have had many excellent guest tutors too.
From autumn 2003, we've been enjoying working with Mairi Campbell as our Musical Director.
Mairi studied viola at the Guildhall School of Music in London before developing her work
in traditional music and song on returning to Scotland.
She has taught and performed extensively throughout the UK for the past 15 years.
This is her first experience as a choir director, and it opens new challenges which she says she is really enjoying. She recently won Scots Singer of the Year in the 2007 Scots Trad Music Awards!
